Goo Gone is a top choice when it comes to stain-removing products. But can Goo Gone remove paint?
Only the Goo Gone latex clean-up & Graffiti remover can strip paint off. They will remove water-based and oil-based paints from different surfaces.
Goo gone has different products, but not all of the products are made for removing paint. That’s because its products are designed to be safe on any surface regardless of the texture or sensitivity. So, most Goo Gone products won’t remove paint.
Goo Gone latex clean-up spray can strip dried paint from different surfaces. The spray is a gel-like substance formulated with citrus that can remove dried water-based paints.
Other products won’t strip dried finishes because they aren’t formulated with special additives that dissolve them. All other products are surface-friendly meaning they won’t be able to remove a dried coating.
To use it:
- Clean the surface.
- Spray it into the surface.

However, the spray doesn’t remove oil-based sealants. That’s because oil-based sealants have natural or synthetic oils that are immune to the Goo Gone spray gel. To strip oil-based sealants, you must use Goo Gone graffiti remover. But, even this product isn’t very effective.
The spray gel is safe on ceramic, plastic, and wooden surfaces. The product also has wipes that you can use to remove small stains.

Goo Gone graffiti remover can strip spray paint as it is designed to penetrate and remove it. However, other products can’t.
Removing spray paint can be harder because it is applied with much force and incredible speed. This causes the paint to stick better to a surface than applying it with a roller or brush. The increased adhesion means it will be more difficult to get it off the surface.
Because of the good adhesion the finish has, the Goo Gone ordinary and Latex Remover can’t strip spray paint. Instead, you must use the graffiti remover as it is stronger and can strip oil-based enamel, lacquers, and spray paints.
Here’s how to use it:
- Spray The Graffiti remover over the surface.
- Wait 10 minutes.
- Use a scrubbing brush to scrub the finish off.
- Clean the product residue with warm soapy water.
If the finish doesn’t come off completely, repeat the process. This time, you can spray more graffiti remover on the surface.
Goo gone won’t strip car paint because the finish adheres perfectly to the surface. If you want to remove the paint from your car, use auto-paint strippers, car paint-removing products, rubbing alcohol, or sand it off the surface.
Goo Gone doesn’t strip car paint because it’s designed to be safe on car surfaces. The product will remove any stain or grease over the car surface, but not its finish.
Even if you use it the paint won’t get removed because the spray is designed to remove water-based paints, and car paints aren’t water-based.
Car paints are made from a mixture of different solvents such as chemicals and synthetic oil, which Goo gone products can’t remove. If you apply it over the car surface, most of the paint won’t be removed. You will end up with a discolored and messy finish.
Goo gone latex-remover spray can strip paint from wooden surfaces, including hardwood floors. The spray is safe to use on wood if you follow the manufacturer’s directions for usage.
The spray is designed to loosen the particles and dissolve the pigments. Once the particles are loosened, the coating liquefies, and you can wipe it off.
You can use it on vertical surfaces too. Due to the gel-like nature of the Goo Gone, it clings perfectly and doesn’t drip. However, other solvents, such as mineral spirits and rubbing alcohol, drip off vertical surfaces.
Here’s how to do it:
- Clean up the wood surface using a rag or soft brush.
- Spray the gel over the surface.
- Leave the gel over the surface for a few minutes.
- After a few minutes, use a clean cloth and wipe the wooden surfaces.
If the paint didn’t come off completely, repeat the process. The spray also comes with wipes that you can use in tight corners.
You must clean the surface with warm soapy water to remove any residue from the wood. You can also use the Goo Gone paint-clean up or cleaner to wipe the surface instead of warm soapy water.
Goo Gone doesn’t damage the wooden surface, but it’s better to wipe it off the surface after you are done.

You can use Goo Gone spray to strip paint stains and splatters from carpets. But, you shouldn’t use it on leather, suede, silk, or wool carpets. These materials can be discolored and damaged by the spray gel.
When you notice paint stains on the carpet, it’s best to clean them immediately. Because if left unnoticed, the coating will dry and leave you with a stained surface. Luckily, Goo Gone latex paint clean-up spray gel can remove fresh or dried paint from carpet. ,

- Wait 5 minutes.
- Use a plastic putty knife to scrape it off.

You can use Goo gone Latex clean-up to remove paint from windows without scarring or discoloring the window. The spray gel also removes glue, fingerprints, grease, and several other stains from windows. And, to top it all, regardless of the product, it is safe to use on windows and glass.
Windows are made of tempered glass, which doesn’t have good adhesive qualities. So, the paint won’t adhere to the windows properly. This helps the product to remove it easier.
Here’s how to do it:
- Clean the windows with a clean rag.
- Spray the affected spot with Goo gone.
- Wait for a few minutes.
- Clean the Goo Gone with a clean rag and warm soap water.
- This will also clean up the window glass leaving you with a clear and smooth surface.

You can use Goo gone latex to remove paint from clothes and other fabrics. However, you shouldn’t use it on sensitive fabric materials like wool, silk, suede, and leather. These surfaces can be stained if you do.
Here’s how to use it:
- Use it in a well-ventilated area.
- Turn the cloth inside out.
- Spray the Goo Gone into the painted spot.
- Wait 2 minutes, wash the cloth with detergent and rinse it to remove the residue.
Goo gone might produce a strong smell when used on clothes, so it’s best to use it in a well-ventilated area. You also don’t need to brush the spot because the gel will soak in on its own, but you can use your fingers to massage the gel into the fabric.
After about two minutes, wash the cloth with detergent and rinse thoroughly to remove any leftover Goo Gone on the cloth. You should notice that the stain has come off after doing this.

Goo gone latex remover will strip paint stains from concrete and stone surfaces. The gel will adhere to the concrete surface and remove its finish. It is also safe to use on concrete because it doesn’t etch or discolor it.
However, it can only remove water-based finished, the spray gel isn’t strong enough to dissolve and strip oil-based finishes, such as polyurethane or wax.
To use it, just spray the gel over the affected spot, wait 5 minutes, and scrape it off. You also must clean the concrete surface to remove any excess or residue that can discolor it.
